SWiSH is the Society for Wom*n in the Social Sciences and Humanities at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Science (D-GESS) at ETH Zurich, founded in February 2018. Our main goal is to achieve gender equality and diversity at D-GESS and ETH Zurich in general.

We seek to establish a fair and safe environment for wom*n at the department that is free from structural and institutional discrimination and to achieve equal representation of wom*n in senior positions, as well as throughout the department. We represent wom*n at D-GESS in university-related policy issues, to guarantee the continuation of gender equality efforts and to push for equal representation and higher visibility of wom*n throughout the department. SWiSH is committed to working towards integrating more critical perspectives on gender, race, class, and disability in the curriculum. We use the spelling 'wom*n' to emphasize that all persons identifying as female are included. Some of our events are reserved for FLINT. By this, we mean Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-Binary, and Trans people.

Frederike Maas (Co-President)

Frederike is a PhD student in Literary and Cultural Studies. She joined SWiSH in January 2021. She currently represents SWiSH in various departmental committees and helps with the organization of educational events.

Sarah Gomm (Co-President)

Sarah is a PhD student in International Political Economy and Environmental Politics. She is part of the Swiss Environmental Panel project in which Swiss citizens’ opinions and preferences on environmental issues are measured and explored in a long-term panel survey in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (Bundesamt für Umwelt, BAFU). Her main research interests lie in the fields of environmental politics, public opinion research, and political psychology. She joined SWiSH in January 2023.

Raquel De Haro (Vice President)

Raquel is a PhD student in the Intellectual Property Group at the Centre for Law and Economics. Her research interests revolve around the critical examination of the digital landscape regulation, with a particular focus on the EU level (DSA, DMA, AI Act, Data Act). Her work strives to provide policy recommendations for a comprehensive digital regulatory framework that boosts innovation while protecting fundamental human rights in the digital age. She joined SWiSH in November 2023.

Lea Stapper (Treasurer)

Lea is a PhD student in International Political Economy and Environmental Politics. Previously, she worked at the Environment Directorate of the OECD where she mainly contributed to a cross-national survey on environmental policies and individual behaviour change. She has a Master's in Environmental Economics from Toulouse School of Economics and a Bachelor's in International Economics from Georgetown University.

Clémentine Abed Meraim (Events coordinator)

Clémentine is a Scientific Assistant in the Law, Economics, and Data Science Group at the Centre for Law and Economics. She is particularly interested in applying methods from econometrics and machine learning, especially text analysis, to investigate questions in political economy. Her primary research focus revolves around the intricate interplay between politics, public policy, and media discourse. Her enthusiasm lies in studying the complex links of these interactions in the context of redistribution policies or political unrest.

Sophie Bettex (PR | Social Media)

Sophie is a PhD student in Technology and Governance. She is part of the CURATE Project focused on data quality in law enforcement and border control. Her doctorate research focuses on the practices within European law enforcement agencies for data quality in data-driven systems. She is interested in how practitioners engage with their data, drawing from a diverse range of disciplines including psychology, criminology, critical data studies, and science and technology studies.
